FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Dear Visitors,

These are some of the most frequently asked questions sent in by e-mail. I do try to answer all e-mails but I get rather a lot of them, and there's only one of me, so some do occasionally slip through the net! Please read these first, before sending me mail, in case you can find an answer to your question here. Thanks!

Q - I've just finished writing a radio script. Can I send it to you?

A - We are a small non profit making company and we can only accept scripts as entries for our competitions, for which we have specific funding. See our Festivals and Competitions page to find out if you are eligible. We don't have the resources to produce any other scripts. However, if we happen to receive more funding for other productions, we will announce this on our home page.

Q - Can we exchange links with your site?

A - Yes, of course we're always happy to exchange links. I check the log files for referrals, so I usually pick up new links to our site that way. See our Reciprocal Links page. If you're not on it, and you have linked to us, please tell me.

Q - I've been visiting the pages of profiles of people you've worked with. I'd very much like to get in touch with....... Could you pass on a message for me?

A - I'm sorry, I can't pass on messages as I don't have e-mail addresses for the people on the list. Melvyn Bragg is the person most frequently requested. He can be contacted by snail mail through his office at London Weekend Television.

Q - I'd very much like to get hold of copies of the Magical Music Box for my children. Could you help?

A - We produced all the audio stories for the Magical Music Box, but our involvement with the project ended there. (See our Magical Music Box page for details of our role in the series.) Marshall Cavendish use a company to distribute their magazines. You can find their contact addresses at Marshall Cavendish's website. Otherwise Marshall Cavendish can be contacted by phone on (London) 0171-734-6710.

We have just heard that Marshall Cavendish are no longer distributing the Magical Music Box.

Q - I've heard your Sherlock Holmes series on NPR in the States. Can I buy it on tape?

A - We used to sell our dramatisations of classic stories on tape. Unfortunately they are now all sold out, and will not be re-issued in the near future. However, you can come back to our Drama Collection page to find out if there are any new developments there.

Q - I'm writing an article about Radio. Would it be possible to do an interview with Tim Crook?

A - Tim gets lots of requests and has no spare time! You can, however, quote from his books: International Radio Journalism and Radio Drama, both published by Routledge. He has also written several articles for this website: International Radio Drama, The History of Independent Radio Journalism in Britain and The Psychological Power of Radio. He also has several other books in the pipeline.

Q - I'm a student and I'd be interested in doing some work experience with your company.

A - Again, we're only a very small company and we produce plays often at very short notice. It's not really possible for us to take on people for work experience. However, there are some other, larger, independent producers in the London area who produce other types of radio programmes (not just drama), who might be interested in taking you on. You could contact the BBC (Broadcasting House, London, W1A 1AA) and ask them for their list of "approved" independent producers.

Q - I'm an actor. Can I send you my voice tape?

A - You're very welcome to send us your voice tape - but tapes are costly to produce and we wouldn't want to waste your time and money. We hire most actors through their agents.

Q - I've enjoyed listening to your plays in Real Audio. Is it possible for you to keep an archive of past plays so we can listen to them again?

A - Sorry, no. Real Audio files are quite large and take up a lot of room on the server. As a non profit making company we are unable to afford the extra space to keep all the old plays on there.

Q - Where can I study Radio?

A - Tim Crook is Head of Radio at Goldsmiths' College, University of London. He runs undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I'm the webmistress for the MA course in Radio at Goldsmiths. You can visit the website to find out more about the course.

Bye for now,
