            at the London Radio Playwrights' Festival Award Ceremony in November 
            1999 at the Tricycle Theatre, London:  
          Standing,

            Yip, for the judging panel (which included David Yip, Olwen Wymark, 
            Mark Ravenhill, Yvonne Brewster, Tim Crook, Richard Shannon and Marja 
            Giejgo) said: "This 
            year the standard was incredibly high and the range of subjects was 
            fantastic....judging the plays was truly a pleasure"     The 
            winning plays were:   'Charley 
            From Outside' by John Park and Frank Johnson 'The 
            Glamour Gene' by Anna McGrail 'A 
            College Near You' by Tony Neville     
  
          Frank 
            Johnson and John Park - together they wrote the top winning play, 
            'Charley From Outside'   David 
            Yip spoke for the judges when he said: "The 
            winner chose us....it was just such a powerful piece of writing....it 
            knocked us sideways"   Also 
            shortlisted were: 'The 
            Great Yes' by William Sutton 'Sucker' 
            by Nick Inman 'Josie 
            in the Underworld' by Donald Jonson   There 
            is also one commissioned play in the Festival this year: 'Klaas' 
            by Fenella Greenfield
