CHARLEY
            - THE RECORDING STUDIO

          Layout of the recording
suite: Most radio recording suites have three essential rooms - studio,
control room, green room. For the Charley From Outside recording we
            used a large, acoustically dead, studio about 8 x 5 x 4 metres high,
fitted with a variety of microphones. The control room was about a
third of that size, with enough space for the recording equipment,
engineer and director and a couple of others. The green room (actors'
common room) was larger than the studio, and had chairs and tables.
Actors rehearsed themselves in the green room, and came when called
into the control room for discussion with the director. A sound-proof
door led to the studio. When shut, they could see the director through
a double-glazed window, and hear over the monitor.
